International Robotics Expert Joan Solà Leads Courses at Ifros Master

On May 3 and 4, Ifros Master had the privilege of hosting Joan Solà, an internationally recognized expert in the field of robotics. Joan Solà is a Tenure Scientist of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) and has made significant contributions to the field of robot perception, sensor fusion, and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM).

During his visit, Joan Solà gave a talk and led two courses at Ifros Master.

The first course, “Lie Theory for the Roboticist,” provided an introduction to Lie theory and its use in robotics, including geometric transformations and calculus on Lie groups. The second course, “Simultaneous Localization and Mapping using Factor Graphs,” focused on SLAM and presented a factor graph-based technique for efficiently solving large-scale SLAM problems.

Joan Solà’s visit to Ifros Master was a unique opportunity for master students to learn from an expert in the field. With a wealth of knowledge and practical experience, Joan Solà has made invaluable contributions to the advancement of robotics. Ifros Master is proud to have hosted such a distinguished scientist and looks forward to continuing to provide educational opportunities for students.
