The IFRoS Master’s program is not just about acquiring knowledge—it’s about applying it in real-world scenarios. One of our key industry partners, Paltech GmbH, offers IFRoS students the opportunity to work on cutting-edge robotics projects in an industrial setting. Based in Germany, Paltech specializes in agricultural robotics, developing autonomous solutions to make farming more efficient and sustainable.
This summer, two of our second-year students, Fatima Yousif Rustamani and David Ceres, had the chance to intern at Paltech, gaining hands-on experience in the field. Additionally, Muhammad Umar, an IFRoS alumnus, transitioned from being a student to a full-time Robotics Software Engineer at Paltech after completing his degree. Their experiences highlight how IFRoS prepares students for impactful careers in robotics.
Muhammad Umar, a 2023 IFRoS graduate, is now a Robotics Software Engineer at Paltech, where he plays a key role in developing a robotic system for weed extraction. His work involves advanced navigation, localization, and perception using ROS2, ensuring precision down to 10 cm accuracy. His journey from IFRoS to Paltech is a testament to how the program equips students with the right skills for the robotics industry.

For Fatima Yousif, the internship at Paltech was her first industry experience in robotics. For over 10 weeks, she worked on testing ultrasonic sensors for collision avoidance in agricultural robots, comparing Bosch and Valeo sensors and integrating them into ROS2-based safety systems. Her work involved real-world field testing, including experiments in high-grass environments. Beyond professional development, she also found an inspiring and welcoming team at Paltech.

David Ceres’ internship focused on one of the most critical aspects of autonomous robotics: motor control. He developed a ROS2 wrapper for CANopen communication, enabling precise motor coordination in Paltech’s weed removal robots. This experience deepened his understanding of communication protocols and system robustness, which is essential for scalable robotic applications. Working alongside passionate engineers, David found the experience both technically enriching and personally rewarding.
